I’ve been saddened to hear of Brexit vote being hijacked by racists

I have been saddened to hear that across the country a very small minority of people who hold racist views are using last week’s Brexit vote as vindication for them, as they believe 52% of the country now agree with them, and have started attacking people that they perceive as non-British.

They are very mistaken, as I believe that a very large majority of this country will be sickened by this.

And to be clear, I am not for a moment saying all people who voted Leave are racist – they had genuine reasons for voting how they did, nothing to do with racism.

These are uncertain, turbulent times, which we as a country need to navigate our way through. But this small minority must not be allowed to hijack our democracy for their own twisted purpose, and we have to unite against them.
